Research
Neutron Activation Analysis experiments are performed.
- This laboratory serves as nuclear analysis and research laboratory. Within the scope of “radionuclide metrology”, “neutron metrology” and using the existing radiation detectors and nuclear instrumentation and also nuclear analytical techniques, various studies are carried out. Some of them are;
Investigation of the correction mechanisms of cascade gamma transitions in radionuclide disintegration charts, count losses (true coincidence losses) due to counting geometries for samples close to the detector by using High-resolution gamma spectrometry (HRGS) technique.
Method development for spectral interference which is one of the correction factors for accurate and precise activity results in HRGS-gamma spectrometer.
Development of measurement techniques for radionuclide samples representing environmental, food or industrial products with very low activities (<1-2 Bq) using HRGS-gamma spectrometers.
If requested, measurement capabilities of nuclear material determination are available for nuclear forensics and homeland security issues. As well as “clean” or “dirty” depleted uranium, natural uranium or enriched uranium with 235U isotope, other radioactive/nuclear materials containing actinide and fission products can be identified by using HRGS, HRAS with PIPS detector andlow level LSC techniques.

NAA studies within the scope of neutron metrology
Within the scope of neutron metrology, by using the neutron-capture (n, γ) reactions that take place with thermal (0.0252 eV) and epithermal (0.50 eV-100 keV) neutron bombardment, mainly in the thermal neutron energy region, thermal neutron and epithermal neutron (resonance integral) cross sections of some stable isotopes, that their accuracy and precision are still under investigation, can be measured .
Other Services
- By using the HRGS technique of gamma spectrometry which is based on HPGe detector technology, all kinds of radioactivity analysis of industrial products, various foods (fish, flour, tea, biscuits, tomato paste, etc.), some liquids (energy drinks, milk, sunflower-olive oil, etc.) and environmental samples (incl. NORM and TENORM grades), geological minerals, industrial raw materials and products (building materials like ground-based fertilizers, coal and powders, cement, ceramic, marble, granite) are performed.
Laboratory Facilities
- Well-type gamma spectrometry with Ge-detector: 44.8% relative efficiency, p-type HPGe detector with a well and Al windows, NIM analog signal processing system and 16K ADC/MCA gamma-counting system with spectral memory, gamma spectroscopy software, etc.
- Coaxial gamma spectrometry with Ge-detector: 76% relative efficiency, n-type HPGe detector with Be window, digital signal processing system and the 16K ADC/MCA gamma-counting system with spectral memory.
Sample preparation equipment and accessories, press, furnace, mill, jaw crusher, ring crusher, calibration sources, certified standard reference materials, sample containers of various sizes, balances, etc.
