Course Goals:
The aim of this course is to teach application of radio activation techniques on the basis of neutron interaction mechanism with matter and also neutron flux and neutron spectras will determined practically using the knowledge gained from this course.
Course Learning Outcomes:
The simplest method to understand the variations in matter corresponding to nuclear reactions ocur by neutron effect is neutron activation analysis. Students will learn radioactivation methods by using irradiation system. They will learn dose measurements in neutron and gamma fields and neutron flux measurements. For this purpose, they will learn 241Am-Be(n,a) ve 252Cf(s.f.) neutron sources and their application areas. They will have knowledge and skill to neutron measurements. Students who will work in reaserch reactors and neutron dosimetry laboratories will learn the use of neutron detectors such as BF3, He-3 and gamma dose-rate meters and spectrometers that can be integrated with any of them. They can also characterized of neutron fields by using passice detectors(activation foils etc.). Students will be able to measure dose radiotherapy units at hospitals and will be able to gain advanced research infrastructure in TAEK, TUBITAK-UME and other research laboratories.
